Important Dates
From the Principal
Mrs Emily Goforth
Last week, our Multi-purpose Hall was transformed into a vibrant celebration of Indonesian culture as our students from Pre-primary to Year 6 took to the stage for our spectacular Indonesian Assembly. What began as a showcase of our students’ remarkable talents evolved into something far more meaningful, a beautiful demonstration of how education can bridge cultures and create lasting connections in our global community.
Our talented students captivated the audience with an impressive array of performances retelling the story by Eric Carle, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, through Indonesian songs, storytelling, dance, and musical presentations. Watching our youngest learners through to our Year 6 students collaborate on this assembly and bring the story to life was a powerful reminder of the universal magic of storytelling — its ability to connect hearts and minds across cultures and generations.
This assembly held special significance as we celebrated two remarkable milestones: the 80th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia’s independence and the 35th anniversary of the sister state relationship between Western Australia and East Java. These partnerships represent decades of cultural exchange, educational collaboration, and friendship that have enriched both our communities.
The presence of exchange students from two Indonesian schools added an authentic dimension to our celebration. These young ambassadors shared their own culture during their time in our Year 5 classrooms, while experiencing ours, embodying the spirit of international understanding. It was an honour to also welcome Ms Charlotte Bowen back to the College as a College alumni and teacher travelling with the students from Indonesia. Additionally, further College alumni, Magenta Marshall MLA was also present, highlighting the importance of her language skills in getting her to where she is today.
In an era where our world can sometimes feel divided, events like our Indonesian Assembly serve as powerful reminders of what unites us. Through music, dance, storytelling, and shared learning, our students experienced firsthand how cultural exchange creates understanding, empathy, and friendship.
This assembly was more than entertainment; it was education in its most meaningful form. Our students learned that celebrating diversity does not mean abandoning their own identity. Rather, it means expanding their worldview and developing the global citizenship skills they will need as leaders of tomorrow.
Thank you to everyone who made this assembly such a remarkable success, particularly Ibu Indah Hixon. Here’s to continued cultural celebration and global learning at Tranby.

Tranby Day – A Celebration of Community and Heritage
Tranby Day is one of the most anticipated events in our College calendar, offering a wonderful opportunity for our whole school community to come together and celebrate.
We begin the day with our Founder’s Assembly, where we reflect on the story of the Brigg Tranby and the Hardy and Clarkson families – the Swan River Colony’s first Methodists. Their vision and faith were instrumental in establishing the Methodist Church, which in 1977 united with the Presbyterian Church and the Congregational Union to form the Uniting Church in Australia. This assembly not only connects us to our history but also inspires us to continue living out the values of faith, service, and community.
Following the assembly, our students will showcase their talents through performances, and we will also hear how some of the funds raised will support the important work of Uniting WA.
One of the highlights of the day is the Grand Relay, where students from across the College come together to represent their Houses in a fast-paced race to see which House will claim victory!
Throughout the day, students will enjoy a variety of activities, including opportunities for our Junior and Senior School students to come together for fun and games in our Whole School Activity. Our Junior School Learning Journey will also take place, providing students with the opportunity to proudly share their growth and achievements with parents and families.
Adding to the excitement is the Tranby Day Fair, where Senior School mentors will run a variety of food and game stalls to raise money for Uniting WA and to help purchase new play equipment for the College. We are also very grateful to our Junior School families for donating raffle prizes, and to the Hon. Reece Whitby MLA, Member for Baldivis, for generously contributing a scooter to our raffle.
Tranby Day is always a memorable celebration of who we are as a community – honouring our heritage, celebrating our talents, and strengthening the bonds that connect us. We look forward to sharing this special day with you.

Reflecting on Wellbeing Week: Building Habits That Last
Last week’s Wellbeing Week was a vibrant celebration of connection and community. Students embraced a range of activities designed to promote mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing. Events included the Amazing Race and Just Dance sessions. The Amazing Race brought teams together in a high-energy challenge that tested problem-solving and teamwork while having a lot of fun. Meanwhile, the Just Dance activity filled the MPH with laughter and movement, reminding us all of the joy that comes from being present in the moment.
To keep the momentum going, students are encouraged to use stress management strategies such as breaking tasks into smaller steps, using planners to stay organised, and taking regular breaks to reset. Mindfulness, deep breathing, and even a quick dance break can help improve focus. Most importantly, students are reminded that support is always available—whether through peers, teachers, or trusted adults. Whilst last week highlighted the importance of wellbeing, it remains a focus of everyday school life.
Thanks go to all staff, students and guests who made wellbeing week an educational and enjoyable experience.
Head of Junior School
Mrs Cheryl Taylor
Last Friday, September 12 the Junior School came together for the biennial Indonesian Assembly.
This assembly is a special event in the Junior School College calendar as all children from Pre-primary through to Year 6 get to participate. We were treated to a wonderful display of learning through the beauty of storytelling, dance and music. The work and commitment of our students to prepare was evident.
We thank our wonderful families for their willingness to support us in the work we do. Transporting children to before and after school rehearsals, assisting with costumes and makeup and being available to help in a variety of other ways was very much appreciated.
The Tranby College Junior School staff need to be congratulated for their tireless dedication and for ensuring our students are provided with learning opportunities that go beyond the classroom.
My heartfelt thanks go to Ibu Indah Hixson. Her passion, dedication and commitment to the learning of the Indonesian language is inspiring and this was clear in what was produced at the assembly. A special thank you also needs to go to Mr Mitch Elliss for his willingness to parade on stage as the very big fat caterpillar!
We were excited to have so many special guests attend. The Indonesian Consulate, Indonesian community groups, members of parliament, AISWA, our Tranby College Chair, and our teachers and students from the Piaget Life Academy & Singapore National Academy in Surabaya, East Java were in attendance. We received wonderful feedback from our special guests, and they were all very impressed with the students skill level in mastering the Indonesian language.
At Tranby, we are indeed most fortunate to have opportunities such as these to come together and celebrate. We know that learning goes beyond the walls of the classrooms and positive memories are created for our students through opportunities such as these.
As the Head of Junior School at Tranby College I am immensely proud and humbled by the work, talents and creative energy of our staff and students and the support of our families. When we work together much can be achieved.
Terima kasih.

Constable Care Incursion
Last Wednesday, our Junior School students were treated to a fun, engaging, and highly educational experience thanks to the Constable Care Foundation. Through a series of age-appropriate puppet shows and interactive performances, students from Pre-Primary to Year 6 explored important topics around safety, wellbeing, and making positive choices.
Each year group participated in a tailored session: First Aid Heroes taught our youngest students basic first aid skills in a fun and accessible way, while Fun Scary helped Years 1 and 2 navigate and explore the differences between safe/ unsafe scary feelings. The Frenemies session prompted thoughtful conversations around bullying, communication and empathy with our Year 3 and 4 students. Meanwhile, our senior primary students explored online safety, cyberbullying and respectful relationships in the compelling performance called Trending.
The sessions were not only informative but also highly entertaining, with students fully engaged and responding enthusiastically throughout. It was wonderful to see students learning valuable life skills through storytelling, humour, and interactive theatre.
We extend our thanks to the Constable Care Foundation for delivering such a meaningful incursion, and we look forward to welcoming them back in the future.

Indonesia Immersion Programme
Immersion Programme: Students from Piaget Life Academy & Singapore National Academy, Surabaya, Indonesia Visit Tranby
Last week, from 11 to 15 September, Tranby was delighted to host a group of ten enthusiastic Year 5 and 6 exchange students from our sister schools, Piaget Life Academy and Singapore National Academy, based in Surabaya, East Java. They were accompanied by their teachers, Ms Charlotte Bowen and Mr Saran.
During their stay, the students joined our Year 5 classes as part of an immersive exchange programme, taking part in a range of learning activities and experiencing daily school life at Tranby. The visit was a meaningful opportunity for cultural exchange, collaboration, and the formation of lasting friendships.
Our guests shared how much they enjoyed their time at Tranby, proudly describing it as “the best place to learn.” They spoke warmly of the friendliness and kindness of our students and staff, saying they felt well cared for and truly at home throughout their visit. The canteen menu was also a big hit—and on their final day, many were reluctant to leave!
A highlight for many was attending the Junior School Indonesian assembly, where they were amazed by the performances and especially impressed by the students’ Bahasa Indonesia skills. This made them feel even more welcomed and connected to our school community.
Strong bonds were formed during the visit, and we’re excited to continue these connections through an ongoing penpal programme. The students also warmly invited us to visit their schools in Surabaya in the near future.
A sincere thank you to all the students and staff who helped make our visitors feel so welcome. We look forward to nurturing this special partnership for many years to come.

R U OK Day
Music with Meaning on R U OK? Day 💛
As part of our R U OK? Day activities, our talented guitar teacher filled the College with music, performing a series of songs that encouraged reflection, connection, and hope.
The power of music to bring people together was on full display, creating a supportive atmosphere to remind us all of the importance of checking in with one another.

Year 4 Excursion - Fremantle Maritime Museum
Year Fours Explore Culture and History at Fremantle Maritime Museum
Last week, the Year Fours went on an exciting excursion to the Fremantle Maritime Museum, where they took part in a fascinating program all about Whadjuk Nyoongar culture.
The museum is located at the mouth of the Derbarl Yerrigan (Swan River), a very special place for Whadjuk Nyoongar people. It was the perfect spot to learn about Walyalup (Fremantle) and the important places nearby, like Manjaree (Bather’s Beach), where Nyoongar groups once gathered to trade and celebrate.
Students had the chance to hear real stories, handle real objects, and explore the traditional knowledge of the Nyoongar people. They learned how the Nyoongar people used natural resources, moved with the seasons, and how their culture continues to thrive today.
The program also helped students understand the impacts of colonisation and the strength of Aboriginal communities in keeping their traditions and knowledge alive.
It was a fun and meaningful day that helped us connect with the land, history, and culture of the Whadjuk Nyoongar people.

Year 2 Pizza Day
Last week, our Year 2 Students launched into their new Fractions unit in the most delicious way possible — with a special Pizza Day!
Across three classrooms, Students became “pizza chefs for the day,” exploring a range of pizza-themed maths activities designed to introduce and build understanding of fractions. Classrooms were decorated for the occasion, and the excitement was high as Students worked through tasks that combined learning with creativity and fun.
It was a fantastic start to the unit, helping Students connect their learning to real-world experiences — and proving that fractions can be just as fun as they are educational!

Art Display - Tranby Day
Art Display on Tranby Day
The Art room will be open during Learning Journey time on Tranby Day!
Please take this opportunity to see our new premises and some of the artworks that students have produced this year. Limited space determines what we can show, so not all students will have work on display.
We look forward to welcoming you.
