Uniting WA

As part of the Service Learning Program at Tranby College, students dedicate a lot of time to fundraise for Uniting WA, a list of what we do follows:

  • Sleep Rough
  • Christmas Appeal
  • Foster Care Packs
  • Hoodies for the Homeless
  • Student Forums
  • Packing of Food Hampers

During students' tutorial time they are assigned to different projects throughout the year. The students brain storm then fundraise, shop and put together some great backpacks full of goodies for the children in foster care with Uniting WA. Students also knit scarves that will be donated once completed and Hoodies have also been made in the textiles room and donated.

In Term 3 students are also given the opportunity to participate in the 'Sleep Rough', which entails fundraising, sleeping on the floor of the Multi-purpose Hall and we also sleep for an hour on the MPH Verandah.

We were pleased to deliver the Beanies that our students made to Uniting WA in Fremantle and hope to continue with this tutorial in coming years.

Winter Warmers Appeal

We had a bike very kindly donated by Reece Whitby, MLA and with every item that families donated, they went into a draw to win the bike, which was one by Ria Sharan, Year 5. The goal for Tranby College, along with our 7 other Uniting Church Schools, was to fill 25 backpacks with essential items for the homeless. With the generous donations made by our Tranby community, we were able to fill 28 backpacks, and again they were delivered to Uniting WA in Fremantle.

Christmas Appeal

A group of Year 8 students did a Brownie Bake Sale and the money they raised was used to purchase and fill a Uniting WA bag with a full Christmas meal for disadvantaged families.

Uniting WA also ran a Christmas Card competition with two of our students, Carmen Doyle from Year 1 and Lara Naude from Pre-primary being two of the winners. They were presented at an assembly with gift vouchers and their winning framed drawing.
