middle school
Middle School at Tranby College is for students in Years 7 - 9. The organisation of the Middle School is based upon our belief that the single greatest influence upon student's learning is the relationships they form; relationships with themselves, each other, the teachers and the school, the environment (school and community) and their family.
We are trying to 'connect' our students with the school. If we can do this we believe we then have a chance to engage them as learners.
Each student throughout their stay in Middle School has their own Form Room where the majority of their lessons occur. Our teachers move around to our students so that they can remain settled and have a space which is 'theirs'. The Form Teacher has more contact time than any other teacher and therefore looks after each student pastorally and academically. This is the person who parents first seek when wanting to know 'how their child is going.'
This deliberate link between curriculum and pastoral care is what we believe one of our points of difference at Tranby College.
Weekly communications between the student, parents and teacher are recorded in a Student Organiser which is also used for organisation of homework and study. Each week students write a reflection on their learning which is read and responded to by their teacher. As well, parents sign and are also invited to respond if they wish. We believe this keeps everyone in the loop week by week so that there are no 'surprises' come report time.
