Vision and Values
The Mission of Tranby College
Tranby College is building an accessible and inclusive community in which students are educated to discover and realise the excellence within themselves.
Within the values and ethos of the Uniting Church in Australia, it is developing people of conscience who play a responsible role in creating sustainable compassionate communities.
The Values of Tranby College
At Tranby College we use the two values of respect and excellence to guide the manner in which we strive to achieve our mission.
We view respect as treating each other, our school and ourselves with high regard or consideration.
We view excellence as striving to fully develop our God given gifts and talents.
The Vision of Tranby College
We recognise that we will only achieve our Mission if all members of our school community are heading in the same direction. To this end, all staff regularly participate in developing a vision that describes where we want the school to be within the next three to five years. Trust and effective communication are the basis upon which staff work together to achieve the vision.

Tranby College Towards 2010
Staff and students at Tranby strive for excellence in a welcoming, caring, ordered atmosphere that provides opportunities for all to learn.
Holistic education is a feature of Tranby. Broad ranges of experiences are provided for students to encourage them all to develop academic, artistic, emotional, physical and social skills, to become spiritually aware and to make a positive contribution to society.
Tranby students become effective communicators with well developed literacy, numeracy and thinking skills. They demonstrate positive work ethics, independence and resilience. They show respect for themselves, others and the environment. They have a strong sense of pride in their school.
Students work in a caring, well-managed environment. Pastoral care, that is concern for the welfare and development of students, is the responsibility of all staff. Behaviour management is part of this and is based on clear, equitable, developmentally appropriate expectations of students in all sections of the College. These are explained to incoming students, parents and staff and are a focus of regular conversations within the school. A computerised student database and behaviour management system helps to support and track pastoral care interventions.
Teaching at Tranby is collaborative, involving partnerships with families and interaction with the wider community. It occurs within a solid curriculum scope from kindergarten to year 12 and is administered by well resourced and skilful curriculum leaders supported by a reliable, flexible system of ICT.
Professional development is valued and is well supported. It is focused on the needs of all staff and of the school, and teams of staff are encouraged to learn together. Feedback of information to colleagues and the sharing of skills are important parts of building the professional learning community, as are the induction and mentoring of new staff.
School leaders are qualified, professional, innovative and accessible to all members of the College community. They value the collective expertise of staff. They recognise that time and a clear, shared vision and values statement are needed to effectively implement change. Continuous improvement is based on feedback from staff, students and parents without losing sight of the shared vision and values of the College community.
Decision making by staff and administrators is supported by an easily accessible e-data system which comprehensively tracks student progress through the Curriculum Framework.
Communication is valued across the school and between school and home. It is supported by an engaging, up-to-date website and an intranet that is available throughout the school and accessible from home.
Interactions at Tranby are based on respect and honesty on the part of all members of the school community. Staff, students and parents all strive to treat each other in the way in which they would like to be treated. Staff recognise that positive relationships with students and with each other are important. They strive to get to know students and colleagues as individuals, often working with students in co-curricular activities and taking part in staff social functions.
Staff are encouraged to balance their commitment to work and to their personal an community lives. They conduct themselves professionally at all times and provide positive role models for the students. They value and care for each other and readily share their knowledge and skills.
